Hi, I’m Elizabeth Stone. Here’s today’s question:

The situation is complicated. My girlfriend and I are currently not speaking, I should start from the beginning.

Valentine’s day weekend I was supposed to pick her up from work, she never showed up, no call or text for a few days until I asked for an expensive gift back. I was sure she ghosted and blocked me. When she called me she was angry and said she lost her phone. We’ve had no contact since, I did apologize but she still doesn’t have a phone so I’m stuck. I do want her back and don’t know what to do.

Let me get this straight.

Your ex girlfriend ghosted you completely on Valentine’s day, waited until you asked for your gift back to respond and now SHE’S angry with you?

And you’re the one who apologized to HER?

Now she doesn’t even have a phone and you think you’re stuck?

Dude. Pull it together.

This whole phone thing is just a convenient excuse. If she wanted to talk to you, she would find a way.

This is ridiculous behavior you’re allowing here.

It’s dead obvious that you’re being very, very disrespected by this woman AND you’re not seeing the reality that if you allow this, you’re not going to be treated any better.

This is not the way ANYONE should accept being treated.

You might want what you want, but this is NOT the kind of respect on which a long term partnership is built.

Unless there’s some giant part of the story that you’re leaving out, you have dodged a bullet here and you can do better.
