How To Get Yourself Back When You’re Feeling Lost
Not feeling like your best self? Then, darling, you need to get clear around what you need and what you want. Time and again, though, I hear comments about feeling confused and unsure about life. Comments like:
“I’m feeling lost and directionless!”
Then you’re probably spending a lot of time doing things you think you should do. Trust me, darling, I grew up on a liberal diet of what good girls should do in order to be loved and accepted.
“I just don’t seem to know what I want.”
It may seem as if you don’t know what you want, but I promise that within the deepest recesses, your heart knows what you really desire. The problem is we’ve trained ourselves to listen to all the clutter in our heads over the voices of our heart. We tune out our intution and believe what “everyone” else says we should do..
“Something must be wrong with me!”
There is not a damned thing wrong with you. You are not broken. You do not need fixed. What’s really going on when you feel like something is amiss? Your daily life doesn’t nourish you. Maybe you’re spending time on things that don’t matter to your soul. Maybe you’re pushing yourself too hard and not getting enough rest. Maybe you need routines to keep you on track and rituals to connect you to the core of who you are.
What do these statements have in common? Brain Clutter!
The clutter in our minds is one of the biggest contributors to the feelings of being lost, not being sure what we want, and feeling like something’s wrong with us. Our minds are meant for having ideas, not holding them. So, when we don’t talk things out or get them down on paper, we’re stuck with swirling thoughts.
The best ways I know to combat that brain clutter is to create a regular writing practice.
A regular writing practice doesn’t have to be stuffy or overly regimented. Grab a pen and any kind of notebook and put down on paper what’s bouncing around in your mind. Though you may prefer to write on your computer, give the pen-and-paper method a try for a month as the act of writing with your hand over using a keyboard accesses a different part of your brain.
Beginning a writing practice can feel scary without direction. It’s one of the reasons I created my “Clearing Soul Clutter: Creating Your Vision” program. The course is a gentle and loving approach to self-inquiry.
If you are experiencing any of these feelings then it’s time to get a little help and get back on track to you. Because, darling, you are never completely lost. Your heart always knows the way back home to you.
It’s practically impossible to create a life you love if you don’t have a clear vision for how you want that life to be.
